Wood is the oldest and most natural material in boat building. Unlike GRP boats, wooden and teak boats require more care, as wood can absorb or release moisture, causing it to swell or shrink. Because wood moves, paint and wood coatings must ensure sufficient flexibility to protect the wood sustainably against moisture and rot.
Teak has always been a very popular material in boat building for deck planking as well as interior and exterior fittings. Naturally oil-rich, teak does not rot and is particularly resilient thanks to the silica it also contains. With Swissvax teak products, it can be easily cleaned and resealed with teak oil.
